Requirements and Disciplines Required for Fulfilling Purpose Part 10

Disciplines for Fulfilling Purpose to Keep in Mind)

They are as follows:

  • Be disciplined in your habits of eating, sleeping, spending etc.
  • Associate with people of like minds and vision. The attributes and character of the people you hang out with reflect on one's personality a lot. If you hang out with eagles, you're definitely going to fly but if you hang out with chickens, you're most likely to cluck. The purpose of life is not to be happy but it is to be useful and make some difference that you have lived well. One just needs direction.
  • Refuse the association of anyone who discourages you in any way
  • Read books by leaders in your field of endeavor or area of purpose. You should also ensure you follow their advice or counsel and improve upon their strategies.
  • Cultivate and maintain enormous concentration on your life’s purpose assignment or work.
  • Refuse to be distracted by all works that only serve to give you money in the immediate but doesn’t contribute to your overall life’s purpose.
  • Commence the pursuit of your vision immediately you have discovered or resolved what your life’s purpose is with whatever amount of resources you have. No matter how small; Never you despise the days of little beginnings.
Congratulations for completing this series!

Requirements and Disciplines for Fulfilling Purpose Part 9

8. Maturity Is Required (Do Away with Envy and Jealousy)

Determine never to be envious or jealous of anyone who is successful around you. Always remember that ultimately no one will ever sing your own song, write your own books, bear or give birth to your own children etc. God has a very unique place for the life of every man or woman. God has more than enough resources to help everyone who is ready to use his or her gift/talent in actualizing their life’s vision, purpose, assignment or mission. There is therefore no need for competition. If any man in your field of endeavour proves to be more successful than you are, then learn from such and improve upon what you learnt and with time you become a star in your own right and you shine your own shine and attract your own unique celebration and reward.

Requirements and Disciplines for Fulfilling Purpose Part 8

7. Persistence is Required. (Never, Ever, Ever Give Up)

A story about persistence, discouragement and Success.

A story was told by napoleon hill in his book out-witting the devil. In the story he said one day, the devil displayed all his work implements, instruments and equipments. A passerby saw those items and decided to ask what the devil was using all those things for; the devil replied that these are his work tools for wreaking havoc on the lives and destinies of people. But while asking this question, he observed that one of the tools on display was isolated and kept specially on very expensive packaging material appearing to be much more valuable than the others but left open as though for sale. When the passerby went further to ask why this particular equipment was kept separately in such a dignified manner and what it was used for? The devil replied that this instrument is called 'discouragement' and that it was his number one (sure bet) weapon for destroying people’s lives, dreams, purpose, mission, visions, assignment, destinies etc. ‘It’s what gives him competitive edge in his business of destruction of lives and destinies’. That it’s possible for him to sell all the other work tools but not the tool of discouragement, NEVER! To do that was to put himself out of business permanently.

The devil said he has known from his experience of destroying and stopping the destinies and vision of billions of lives that everyone can be courageous and serious about their purpose, dreams, assignments etc. in normal times when everything were in shape but during hard times, pressures and discouragement; the majority of people would fall and quit and throw away their dreams and visions from their center of focus and return to normal purposeless-survivalist existence!

Keep going, encourage yourself, and don’t ever be discouraged. By all means determine never to give up on yourself, your purpose, dream and vision. Remain consistent and persistent, over time People will come to know you for what you do and represent. So be determined and persistent in doing or carrying out your life’s work and after that, wait patiently as time does her work in bringing your dream to reality and in bringing you to limelight.

Bear in mind that every great product or company you see today was not in existence before and nobody knew them then but because of consistency, persistence and time we now. So keep this secret in mind.

Requirements and Disciplines for Fulfilling Purpose Part 7.

6. Ethics, Morality and Righteousness is Required.

Nature doesn’t support evil. Thus the saying ‘you can’t cheat nature’.

  • A thief cannot fulfill purpose
  • A murderer cannot fulfill purpose
  • A cheat or deceiver cannot fulfill purpose
  • A womanizer cannot fulfill purpose etc.

Whether you are religious at heart or not makes no difference or give the minutest provision for an excuse! You must possess this requirement to fulfill purpose. Whoever you are; even If you're an atheist for instance then at least follow the laws in the constitution of your country and you are good to go –no excuse is allowed.

Requirements and Disciplines for Fulfilling Purpose Part 6.

5. Action in Talent Discovery and Development is required.

You have worked out what God wants you to do with your gift to the benefit of mankind. That’s your life’s purpose; then it’s time for you to develop your gift or potential for fulfilling purpose.  If for instance you discover you have a good voice. Then develop that voice very well and determine to be a great chorister or singer. With time you can train others to also sing like yourself. I believe you understand that just because you possess a good voice naturally doesn’t mean you would automatically become a great singer. There are a lot of things you would have to learn about music to become a great singer. Don’t wait to hear whether a loud or still small voice from heaven before taking action to start developing that talent, gift, potentials or the required skills for your area of passion or assignment.

Requirements and Disciplines for Fulfilling Purpose Part 5.

4. Self-reliance and Self-confidence are required

No man will ever experience frustration, disappointment, and discouragement like the man who tries to depend on other people's encouragement on his way to fulfilling his God given assignment or vision because you will most times be alone in your journey to successfully achieving your lives purpose and vision. You will not receive encouragement from most people. No one will ever see what you are seeing in your mind’s eye. You are the owner of your unique vision and only you feels what the future of your dream or vision feels like. Your future excites only you. The price of loneliness is the ultimate price or sacrifice that you must pay in your journey of fulfilling destiny or purpose.

Read Ralph Waldo Emerson’s words below:

The moment you know that what you know is greater than what you have been taught to believe you have shifted gears in your quest for abundance.

Other quotes includes:

There is a time in a man’s education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance and imitation is suicide that he must take himself for better or worse as his portion that though this wide universe is full of good no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestowed on the plot of ground which is given to him to till. -Ralph Waldo Emerson.

If a man endeavours to walk confidently in the direction of his dream, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours -Henry David Thoreau.

Mind is the master power that molds and makes and man is mind and ever more he takes the tool of thought in shaping what he wills brings forth a thousand joy on a thousand hills he thinks in secret and it comes to pass -James Allen

Requirements and Disciplines for Fulfilling Purpose Part 4.

3. Faithfulness is Required

Remain faithful, consistent and committed to what you have discovered and believe is your life’s purpose. Don’t change jobs or career in the name of looking for money. Faithfulness, consistency and commitment in what you do causes a lot of people to recognize you for the particular product or service you offer them. They would have it fixed in their minds that you are not a jack of all trade and master of none; you have something specific you offer. As they patronize you they would also refer their friends, family members or loved ones to you for being a person who is trustworthy. This will cause them and more people to be drawn to your business. And as you know in business the more people you serve, the more money you make and the more influential you become.

“People who are here and there don’t go anywhere in life; always be either here or there” –Bishop David Abioye

Requirements and Disciplines for Fulfilling Purpose Part 3.

2. Vision is Required

Vision means seeing a possibility that others don’t see in your area of assignment or endeavour. It can be a slightly different way of handling a problem or a way of doing something that is much faster, effective and efficient. Achieving success as the pioneer of this new way of doing things makes people see you as a leader in your field; so knowing your gift or purpose is not enough. You must be able to bring something new to the table. You must engage the forces of creativity and innovation in your life’s assignment or work. Napoleon Hill in his great book think and grow rich wrote about the synthetic and creative imagination. Synthetic imagination uses or combines old knowledge and resources to create new things. The creative imagination is used to invent thing that are completely new. Be so good in your field that that you can use both to bring up new ideas or innovations that will make you outstanding in your field.  For instance Bill Gates at an early age of 13 had already known that computing was his line of assignment and started programming from that age. In the year 1976 he got a business partner; Paul Allen and they both founded Microsoft Corporation. As he grew older he worked as a programmer for several companies that were into computers including IBM that were into producing and distribution of mainframe computers that were large and required operators who were specialists in one programming language or the other. Whenever there was work to be computed only computer operators or programmers could use the computer in handling the work to be computed. So using computers at the time was a very specialized and technical work like rocket science. Bill gates along with his contemporaries at the time then got the idea that if a software capable of doing (or more correctly replacing) the work of a specialized computer operator or programmer could be developed, they could with it help everyone else whether computer literate or not to use the computer especially in performing basic functions such as word processing and typing, spread sheet creation, database management, photo editing etc. At some point according to history it was said that bill gates met with a programmer who had developed a software (86-DOS) -an operating system that met the specifications he had in mind, so he bought the software from the programmer. He Then upgraded and renamed it MS-DOS meaning ‘Microsoft-Disk Operating System and later released it then as the first version of windows operating system. Bill gates then resolved that his vision was to place computer systems having Microsoft operating system at every home, office, school, laboratory etc. This vision’s success placed him among the richest men of the world today.

Requirements and Disciplines for Fulfilling Purpose Part 2.

Hold the description concerning ‘the man that will never amount to much’ in part 1 in mind as we consider the following requirements for success in purpose fulfilment:

1. Initiative is Required

Please note that initiative and decision making is very much required in the journey of discovering and fulfilling purpose because no one can specifically tell you what your life should be about; neither is there any book or formula that will accurately tell you the area to choose. Also you will not hear any voice from heaven telling you exactly what to do. It is only you God has given that responsibility.

🎯You are the one that will discover, understand and develop yourself in your purpose

🎯You are the one to discover and develop your gifts, talent and potentials etc.

🎯You are the person that would choose the problem you would use your developed gift, talent, potentials and skills to solve in society.

🎯You are the one to take initiative to specifically decide what your purpose is in life.

Steps of initiative

  • Research and identify the problems or needs around you
  • Decide on the particular problem or need you will solve/fill. You can’t solve all the problems in society.
  • Choose the problems you have developed talent and skills to solve
  • Develop a unique product or service for solving the identified problem or need.
  • Resolve to continuously develop your Gifts, talents, potentials and abilities in order to be better at solving the problem or filling the need. Aim for excellence of the highest level.

Requirements and Disciplines for Fulfilling Your Life's Purpose (Part 1).

Key Objectives of this Series

At the end of this Series, Readers should be able to:

🎯Develop the fertile mindset necessary for success in purpose fulfilment.

🎯 Identify the Vital requirements for Purpose fulfilment

🎯Cultivate the requisite push or motivation for taking action in carrying out the requirements for success and greatness we shall look in this series.

🎯Develop the disciplines required for greatness and fulfilment of purpose

Introduction

By way of introducing this Series we shall consider a write-up that I wrote about 4 years ago (2019). The inspiration for writing this Series was gotten from the idea I had in mind when I wrote it. It’s titled: ‘The man or woman that will never amount to much’

Read below:

The Man that will never amount to much,

I know him very well. Let me give you a picture of that man.

After Understanding his Purpose for living:

🎯He wants to have the cooperation and involvement of everyone around him before he will take steps to fulfill his life’s Purpose, Assignment, Mission and Vision

🎯He wants to have all the resources needed for actualization or realization of his life’s assignment or vision before he will venture out and start. Eleanor Roosevelt counselled that you “Do What You Can, With What You Have, Where You Are”.

🎯He wants to have all the knowledge about his life's Purpose, assignment, Mission and Vision before he would venture out and start.

🎯He wants to have a grasps of all the details about the future of his life’s assignment, (on whether he would succeed or not) before he starts.

🎯He wants to have the agreement of everyone about the authenticity and concreteness of his life’s vision or assignment before he starts.

🎯He wants to have everyone's agreement regarding the relevance of his life’s assignment before he would venture out and start.

🎯He wants to have everyone see, understand and agree with whatever God has shown him about his life's assignment or destiny before he would venture out and start.

🎯He wants to have everything he is seeing about his future or destiny to logically conform with present reality or the status quo before he would venture out and start, when most Worthwhile visions of the future always contradict our present reality. Albert Einstein said it so beautifully that "Imagination Is Greater Than Knowledge".

Key point to Note: What God wants to achieve through you is always greater than your present reality. God doesn’t repeat things He is never short of ideas.

But as it is written eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9 (KJV)

🎯He sees everyone around him (except himself) as the  cause of the problems around his life

If your overall aim or goal in life is to succeed, then I counsel you to refuse to be like the man or woman who has any of these description.

From part 2 of this series and onwards I shall be presenting those very vital requirements for fulfilling Purpose. When I'm done with that then I will give a summary of the Disciplines needed for Fulfilling Purpose.

Understanding Your Free Resources for Fulfilling Purpose Part 5

In parts 2 to 4 of this series, We looked at 3 examples of our free resources for fulfilling Purpose. In this 5th/last part we will be looking at examples 4 to 6 of those resources.

4.Social capital: This refers to resources or things you get from people other than money that can help you achieve your vision.

For example you decided to start a church and don’t have any personal hall or space to use and you also don’t have money to rent one. You decided to tell a friend about your vision of starting a church and your challenge. Then this friend you told about your challenges decides to offer you his or her sitting room to start your meetings for free until you are able to rent a meeting venue.

Another scenario could be that you told someone about your vision and then this person who doesn’t have the means of helping you directly but has a friend who has the means of helping out. Like in the case where space was the need, this person now talks on your behalf to someone he or she knows to have a hall or warehouse for rent and this third party, that is the owner of the hall or warehouse decides to give you the hall or warehouse for free because of the relationship between him and your friend. That’s called social capital.

Thirdly you want to do your school project but don’t have a computer system and a friend of yours you told about your plight decides to lend you his or her laptop computer system. That’s another example of social capital.

The main elements in all this situations you should bear in mind are the words friendship, connections, network, contacts and relationship. These elements summarizes what is meant by social capital: things given to you to support your vision because of your friendship or relationship with others.

5. Public libraries and all resources and programmes from charity organisations such as churches, mosque, non-governmental/non-profit organizations

6. Free resources on the internet. These includes Publications, articles, journals, webpages you browse and explore using google search, training courses and videos on YouTube, webinars, e-libraries, and all free educational Resources on the internet and social media.

A very good example of point 5 & 6 is our institute ‘Thought Force International Institute's social media posts, trainings, seminars, workshops etc.

This is the last part for this series.

Understanding Your Free Resources for Fulfilling Purpose Part 4

Today we will be looking at the third category of free resources around you for fulfilling your Life's Purpose:

3. Positive friends around you: this includes all your friends that are experts in one field or the other that you can easily access for advice and support in fulfilling your life’s purpose or assignment.

Please note that I said positive friends because not every friend qualifies to be a resource: busy bodies, critics and gossips are not part of the group of people I’m referring to. I mean friends who are committed, dedicated and devoted to helping themselves and others advance in life. The idea is to get quality advice from them relative to your life’s purpose and assignment. Don’t take their advice for granted because they are giving them for free. This information can save you money and from making many mistakes you could make without their advice. Don’t keep things to yourself saying that ‘people don’t help others’ or that ‘all what you need is money or capital’. Sometimes these well-wishers may not have money to give you but they can point out loopholes in your ideas or even offer candid advice on which area of business you shouldn’t go into because from their experiences in that area in the past, you may lose money. Others can connect you with people who can provide you with money or other material resources for carrying out your plans.

This now leads us to the concept of social capital. Which we shall look at in part5 of this series.

Understanding Your Free Resources for Purpose Fulfilment Part 3

Your 2nd free resources

Free Resources in your family house e.g. the space inside the compound, the electrical appliances you have access to using, the chairs and benches, the buckets and bowls, etc. I mean whatever in the family house you could use to your benefit when they are not in use by other members of the family that could help you kick start your vision.

For example, I remember the period in early January of 2020 shortly before lockdown of COVID-19. when I returned from youth service and was unemployed and decided to continue the dry cleaning business I started shortly before rounding up youth service at Lafia, Nasarawa state where I served. When I discovered that all I had among the things required for commencing the business at Abuja where my family house was located, was only the small Phillip pressing iron I returned with, and I also had no shop. I decided to look around the house for what was not in use I could use to my advantage, and sure enough I found them, a long panel of wood normally found inside bed furniture for raising the height of mattress that I planned to convert to table by adding taller legs to it, big bows in the house normally used for washing and storing water I could use for washing when they were not in use, electricity line I could use for almost free, tap water I could use for almost free too. I then got a carpenter and with the long wood panel and one or two extra lengths of 2×3 wood the carpenter made ready the ironing table I needed. I decided I will use the front of our house and inside my room as shop. So in other words I was ready for dry cleaning business. What I needed next was customers. I then got a Graphics-designer who designed complementary card, flyer for marketing, and banner to be used as signboard for my business place/shop (a part of our family house). With my business cards and flyers on hand, I went doing marketing very early on a Saturday morning around 6:45 Am. I went to the estates close to my family house, knocking from door to door telling the estate occupants about my services and requesting that they patronize me. The same day I got two customers who in their own words said they wanted to try or test my services. I did their work promptly and returned the clothes to them in their houses in the estate. That's how my customers continued to grow and because my cost was low due to the fact that I didn’t pay rent, buy water or pay electricity bills. Most of the washing fees were pure profits for me. I was able to support himself and my family – my mum and sister at the time. The end of my story.

I shared this story with a university graduate from FUT-Minna (-the school I graduated from and who is currently an executive of my institute.) This graduate got inspired by the story of how I started my own laundry business and he too in less than 2 weeks commenced his own dry cleaning business from his family house and has been doing well ever since. Told me in his words "And all these things were there before oh"

In conclusion do not wait to have everything, look around your family house for what you can start with.

Always bear in mind that “how you start is not as important as whether you start” and Eleanor Roosevelt words are as you can remember start to “do whatever you can, with whatever you have, where you are.”

Understanding Your Free Resources for Purpose Fulfilment Part 2

Example 1. of the Free Resources around you:

1. Free Space in Forests, Mountains, Orchards, Hills, sides of Rivers, Streams, Ponds, Lakes, Dams etc. that you can use for free, for recreation, reflection and self-assessment, thinking, planning etc. These all provide you peaceful, quiet and serene environment with fresh breeze for your personal benefit.  It’s a great way to relax yourself psychologically and also put off the distractions of normal life.  I personally love going into orchards or tops of rocky hills that I  could find around where I do a lot of reading, self-analysis, reflection, visualization, dreaming and especially thinking and planning. And I have never been charged a dime for using these resources”. It’s just free God given resources!

Separating yourself to this kind of environment is a great way of elevating yourself to a high plain/level of thought far beyond those levels of thought in the normal distraction laden environments. This is where you receive great ideas for living an outstanding life.

Note that in using this resources ensure you don’t go too far into the forest where you could be exposed to wild animals. What you are after is a safe, secluded and quiet place where you can just be alone to think, reflect over, assess, study, analyze, refocus and ultimately plan your life. You also do a lot of dreaming, imagining, visualisation Also be very mindful of snakes, scorpions, centipedes and the likes -that’s their abode; same way houses are the abodes of you and me. Remember also to wear shoes and have torch-light because it might get dark before you are done with this your all-important personal research and life planning activity that great people always engage themselves in.

 A great secret:

fix in your mind forever that “you can never amount to much if you don’t always create time for you to be alone to think, visualize, dream, and plan your life, destiny and future”

This activity uses your intelligence and imagination –the greatest nation in the world; the creators of great lives, destinies, technologies and innovations, institutions, companies, communities etc.

We shall look at 2nd example (of the free resources for fulfilling Purpose) in part 3 of this series.

Understanding Your Free Resources for Fulfilling Purpose Part 1

“Start what you can, with whatever you have, where you are.” -Theodore Roosevelt

Objectives of this series.

At the end of this Series readers should be able to:

  • Identify the free non-monetary resources around them that most people ignore that they could exploit in achieving their life’s purpose
  • Start using these free resources to help them achieve success in their life’s purpose or pursuits at a short time.
  • Understand that they need not wait until they possess all the money, facilities and material things they need before they commence achieving their life’s purpose, vision or dream.

Introduction

Ever heard the saying that you need money to make money or that money is everything. People usually say if you have money you have everything. But is that always the case. Yes we can achieve a lot with money. And in fact capital is a very important resource for business success. So much important to the extent that it is listed among the factors of production. But what do we say about the vast majority of Billionaires of yesterdays and today who started their careers with almost nothing. People who started with whatever they could find around them, worked with those little resources to prove their business acumen and credit worthiness before credit or capital met them on the road leading to fulfilment of their life’s vision which has enabled them to organize their vast business empires and accumulate their enormous wealth. Surely for any person who has discovered what is really true purpose; that is a person who possesses enormous passion for achieving his or her life’s purpose, capital only serves as resource for expansion of vision but not for the commencement of purpose or vision. The issues of Scarcity and Abundance therefore as it relates to means or resources for purpose or vision fulfilment are mindsets. If we believe entirely that we must have cash or money before we can commence fulfilling our life’s purpose and vision then we would become grounded but If we understand that not everything is money, then we can look around us to find the resources that God has placed around us for enabling us in taking step to start the journey of fulfilling our visions, assignments and destinies.

In the next posts -Part 2  all through to 6 we shall be looking at Examples of those free resources and opportunities around you that are lying there uselessly looking at you but waiting for you to come and carry them and use for the benefit of fulfilling your life’s purpose and vision for free.

What to do next after Discovering Purpose

What to do after discovering purpose by any of the 10 methods Discussed in this Series.

(a). Whatever comes to your mind that you resolve is your gift, passion or purpose through the use of any of the methods for discovering purpose we looked at earlier, write it down on paper. Dr. David Oyedepo said “those who work on paper work better” and it is said “write the vision and make it plain that he may run that readeth it”. –Habakuk 2:2

(b). You then decide on the smallest action step(s) possible you can take to start developing your capacity and getting closer to the identified area. It could be any of the following:

  • Reading a book on the subject
  • Getting a private coach/instructor e.g. football coach, music teacher,
  • Joining a book club
  • Registering/subscribing to and visiting a library
  • Enrolling in training institute

How to Discover Your Life's Purpose Part 10

In this 10th part we would be looking at the 10th method for finding out personal purpose read below.

10th Method: Write Your Own Life's Story

Reading can help you find your out your purpose—but so can writing, Purpose often arises from our desire to be of help to humanity in some way. This method is concerned with sharing the true story of your life to help inspire others who have similar problems, to overcome theirs.

So the question is ‘What’s your story?’ I mean your real story. Not some carefully written story of yourself designed to impress friends on Facebook or to look more employable on LinkedIn, useful shortcuts that these social media provide to people wanting to get to know you.

Your true story comes from taking records of the answers to the following questions:

  • What obstacles have you encountered?
  • What were the weaknesses you had to overcome?
  • What strengths helped you to overcome them?
  • How did other people help you?
  • How did your strengths help make life better for you and others?

Your sense of purpose would grow from your desire to share your story with others—especially when you come to the realization that so many other people are also suffering from the problem(s) you have suffered and overcome. These people need your testimony and experience to overcome their own problems.”

You then choose to share this story every day with as many people as possible who have similar problem’s to inspire them. In other words you make sharing this story your life’s purpose.

In the next part which would be the last part in the 'Discovering Your Life's Purpose Series' we would be looking at: what to do after discovering your life's purpose

How to Discover Your Life's Purpose Part 9

In the part 8 of this series we looked at the 6th and 7th method for finding out personal purpose. In this 9th part we will be looking at the 8th and 9th methods. There are as follows;

8th method: Take a look at the Problems Around You

Success in life is tied to offering value and solving problems for people. The use of natural gift and talent is at the center of problem solving. The use of developed skills, gift and talent makes purpose fulfilment effortless. I believe problem solvers are men of purpose. Problem-solving will shoot you to relevance and make you a man of purpose

My Personal Story, as it relates to the method of discovering purpose by identifying the problem(s) around you.

Haven learnt from such great minds as Late Napoleon Hill, Late Dr. Myles Munroe, Dr. David Oyedepo, Dr. Mike Murdock, Bob Gass, John C. Maxwell, Bob Proctor etc. that the secret of success whether financially or socially was anchored on the discovery of purpose and our natural abilities, developing and engaging our gifts or talent in solving problems for people. But I found out that one major problem in our society today was that most people are not living purposeful lives, they are not developing and using their talent for solving human problems mostly because they are not taught that discovering purpose, fulfillment of purpose through the use our developed gifts is the bedrock of success in life. I knew from my research from the works of the great minds I learnt from that the lack of this knowledge is the root cause of poverty, unemployment, underachievement and underdevelopment we see today in most parts of Africa.

This problem really pained me and I felt it needs to be solved. And I decided I would make it my life’s work to solve it. After studying and identifying that my primary gift is talking, I felt why don’t I use my gift in serving others. I decided I would change peoples' lives through my speaking and writing. I wanted to share everything I had learned with everyone else. So I started talking about it. I started sharing what I learnt with my school mates and also junior students during our free periods in class whether before a lecturer comes in or after class. I was literally begging for people’s attention for them to hear me out. I talked in the school fellowship I was attending too ( Nifes fellowship) at our bible study review and whenever we were divided into classes for bible studies especially when I would be taking a class; I would relate the principles of success I had learnt to whatever topic I was to taking. I also constantly discussed it with close friends in my neighbourhood in the house I was staying outside my school campus at Federal University of Technology Minna too. Little did I know that I was sharpening my public speaking skills and perfecting myself in killing the fear of rejection and mastering the virtue of persistence at the same making an impact in the lives of the few students I could reach.

And, yes, friends and family (especially my mum) were shocked each time I told them I didn't want to pursue a job or profession. To them I was foolish and lazy so I didn’t want to work. They felt wanted to waste my time on such useless and profitless endeavours. They were all used to the normal pattern of finishing school and then looking for employment or pursuing a profession. But my mind was made up, I wanted to live my purpose. That's what was burning in my heart to do. I strongly believe that each and every one of us was brought here on earth to fulfill a specific purpose. I knew my success in life is tied to my personal purpose and not to any job or profession.

9th method: Volunteerism

Finding purpose is aided by having a broad set of meaningful experiences that can point you in the right direction. Volunteering expands your experience, while also improving your well-being and helping the world. Not only that, volunteering puts you in touch with people who have similar values, who may inspire you or point you toward other opportunities for making a difference that you hadn’t thought of before.

Volunteering also brings you closer to people. As you interact with people you gain more knowledge about others and yourself. As you get closer to others you also gain knowledge about problems of people in the group and this information enables you to creatively find solutions to their problems. This becomes your life’s purpose.

How to Discover Your Life's Purpose Part 8

6th and 7th Methods for finding out your life's purpose.

6th method: What Would You Do If Your Days Were Numbered?

Also similar to the point about your funeral service and what you wish to be remembered for discussed in part7 of this series.

How this method works: If you went to the doctor for a routine checkup and received unexpected news that you were terminally ill and had a very short time left to live, what would you do? You are to decide on what is most important to you that you will devote all your time on earth doing till when you exit out of this world. I asked myself this same question and after I thought of many things I could do with my time. I identified that Speaking and making a difference in the lives of others was at the forefront of everything I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Whatever you decide you will do with your life if your days were numbered write it down. That is your life purpose. You are the one to take initiative to decide what exactly your purpose is. No voice from heaven will tell you that. It’s your responsibility.

7th Method: Study Your Role Models/Mentors & Their Profession or Assignments.

A mentor or role model’s life work is a Prophesy of a student, follower or protégé’s life’s purpose, work or assignment. The assignment or purpose of the people you admire and emulate can reveal the assignment or purpose you have the capacity to fulfill. That is, for instance if your best role models are musicians that means you have capacity to become a musician. It is said “show me your friends and I will tell you who you are” and that “birds of a feather flock together”. It’s not just coincidence that the majority of people you emulate are in very similar fields

For instance I have always emulated and followed people who the majority of them are personal development teachers and educators; people who possess the personal life mission of enlightening the minds of people on principles of success in life, finance and business. They do this to help people become great; so that they could impact their society for good. These mentors who are personal development teachers and educators include: Napoleon Hill, Dr. Myles Munroe, Robert Kiyosaki, Dr. Mike Murdock, Dale Carnegie, Dr. David Oyedepo, G. Edward Griffin, Bob Proctor, William Walker Atkinson, John Taylor Gatto, Jack Canfield, John C. Maxwell, John Mason, Mensa Otabil, Robert Greene, Wattle Wallace, Mark Twain, Prentice Mulford, Charles Haanel, Robert Collier, James Allen etc. All this individuals have one organization or the other that are devoted to teaching people the principles of success. So it’s not a surprise that today I have a training organization (that is thought force international institute) which is devoted to teaching people the principles of success in life, business, and finance. Thus proving truly that a mentor’s profession or assignment is a prophesy of the student or protégés life’s assignment or purpose. Or as Dr. Paul Enenche summarized it simply that “who you follow determines what follows you”

How to Discover Your Life's Purpose Part 7

5th Method for finding out you life's purpose:

Your Funeral Service, What You Wish To Be Remembered For And Core Values To Uphold.

This method is about deciding how your life story would read at the end of your life’s journey. It’s about creating and shaping your future- the future you desire in being. It’s about making use of the gifts of your mind (will), time and your life today for writing or rewriting your life’s story by intentional living. It’s said that the best way to predict your future is to create it. Life offers us two kinds of pain to choose from; the pain of regret from a future that you allowed fate or your environment to force on you or the pain of forcefully creating or birthing the future you desire. We identified earlier that among the gifts every human being received at birth were the gift of life, time and mind. It’s what we use our life which is under the full control of the mind to do over time that dictates how we end up. A life that would end up a success is the bye product of the handiwork of a great mind, a great mind is the bye product of a great education, and a great education is one which is enshrined in acquiring self-knowledge. – Knowledge about the inner self and inner hidden seed of greatness called talent, potential or simply natural abilities. The development of the hidden seed of greatness and self-expression in use of those developed natural abilities in solving human problems. Socrates’ injunction was and still holds true today he said “man know thyself”. So as can be seen a great life is a product of great work, efforts and sacrifice. First its discovery from personal research and development to crafting a life plan to actions in bringing your plans to reality.

How to carry out this method

I was first introduced to this great method by Late Dr Myles Munroe. He said you should spend time alone, thinking and reflecting on your life and decide what legacy you would want to be remembered for. And said assuming today you went to attend a burial or funeral service and on getting there you went to see the face of the deceased. On reaching the side of the coffin and looking into it, lo and behold you were the one inside. It was your burial service, you discovered that in fact it was your spirit that had been moving around all the while. You start to think that no wonder you had been talking to all the people that were gathered for the burial but no one was seeing you or responding to you. Before having this realization you had even tried screaming and hitting those people you spoke to in order to draw their attention but all to no avail. You (or more correctly your spirit) was hovering around and among the attendees of your burial and you were hearing those people talking about you –about the kind of person you were doing your time on earth. Some people were probably saying some things that you felt were not correct because you have an excuse to give on why you did this or that, why this happened and that happened; but it was too late because no one was hearing you. You realise that you don’t have the opportunity you had when you were still alive to write or rewrite your story. ‘It’s too late when the head is cutoff’ they say. That opportunity is lost forever.

Dr. Myles Munroe said what would the majority of the people be saying about you? Would they be saying positive things or negative things? For some persons, people will say things like: “he or she was a very wicked person”, “he or she was a person without compassion or pity for other less privileged persons”, he or she was a thief, fraudster or a very corrupt personality; but for a few others it will be said of them that “they were very caring, compassionate, homely, hospitable, creative, hardworking, sincere, loyal, impactful persons among many other good qualities, virtues or values that would be ascribed to them.

He said holding this analogy in your mind you should ask yourself two questions:

1. What would people say about you if today and this very moment was your funeral service based on your sincere assessment of your current lifestyle and mode of living?

2. Assuming based on your own unbiased assessment the answer to the first question above is in the negative or not too impressive, what would you love to be what the majority of people would say about you at your funeral or burial service?

Think very deeply these are purpose or destiny revealing and life transforming questions!

Whatever you come up with becomes your life's purpose or assignment -what you live for and the legacy you would create and be remembered for.

How to Discover Your Life's Purpose Part 6

Continuation on the Methods for discovering purpose.

In part 5 of this series, we looked at the method of discovering purpose by examining your gifts, talent or potentials; collectively called your natural abilities. In this 6th part we shall be looking at 3 other methods among the 10 methods of discovering purpose.

(2nd method): Study Your Loves, Hobbies, And Passion.

What keeps you up with excitement at night, what do you love talking about, thinking about, and singing about, what makes you cry? What is the deep desire set in your heart, the thing that sets your soul on fire? When you identify what makes you cry, and what sets your soul on fire, and you tap into those, you begin to understand your reason for existence; your life’s purpose.

The only thing that has always filled my heart and kept me up with so much excitement at night that I couldn't sleep was the desire to do personal research that would enable me in having adequate resources for speaking and impacting the lives of others.

Also consider this: Assuming all your needs are automatically paid for you each day and money wasn’t a problem, what would you love to be doing all the remaining days of your life?

Mike Murdock believes love is a radar that helps us to detect our gifts and our gifts are what helps us to detect our life’s purpose he also said “What we love can reveal the gift we contain and what God has given us capacity to become. God gives us gifts to enable us fulfill or carry out our life’s purpose and assignment.”

If you love writing that’s a clue to the fact that you possess the potential inside you that will enable you become a great writer who can become a great author or secretary or other careers that require that gift.

If you love reading or research it’s a clue to the fact that you possess capacity to become a writer. The reason is because a writer most have ample wealth of knowledge to be able to effectively persuade and impact readers. You write to instruct and you read to know what instruction to pass across

If you love singing that’s a clue to the fact that you possess the gift inside you that would enable you to become a great singer who can touch lives by singing quality music. You can also pioneer great music studio, instrument shop or school.

If you love to dance it shows you have the potential inside you to become a great dancer and entertainer who can pioneer a great entertainment firm/band where you develop young men and women who would dance to entertain various kinds of audiences; where also you train interested upcoming artist in dancing.

If you love drawing that’s a clue to the fact that you can become a great artist who draws or paints breathe taking works or pieces.

If you love to dream and imagine things in an unknown world that’s a clue to the fact that you can become a great leader, script writer or movie maker or director, architect or graphic designer who creates and builds mind boggling works. As a leader you build big organizations, as a movie director or script writer you create wonderful movies, dramas or plays. As An architect you design big buildings, bridges and structures etc.

If you love sports be it football, basketball, table tennis, lawn tennis, lawn tennis, volley ball etc. It’s a clue to the fact that you have the potential to function in the sports you have interest in and with hard work and determination you become a great sports star. You can start a club or team or even pioneer your own your league.

3rd Method: Study Your Hates

Mike Murdock said: “what you hate can be a clue to what you were born to heal”.

For example do you hate: Injustice, drug abuse, rape, child abuse, bureaucracy, nepotism, corruption, child trafficking etc. Names such as Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Martin Luther King Junior all came to limelight because they hated and fought against such injustices as segregation, slavery, racism etc.

We also have late Dr, Dora Akunyili who fought against importation of fake/substandard foods and drugs as then head of National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Nigeria.

4th method: Study What You Have Suffered and Conquered.

This point is very similar to the point 3 above on what you hate. What you have suffered can be a clue to the problem God has wired you to solve. People who have suffered from and overcame poverty, unwanted pregnancy, child abuse etc. naturally develop passion for helping others in either avoiding such problems or helping victims out of such problems. They go on start or support various humanitarian causes/services like building schools and offering scholarship, starting orphanages, motherless baby homes for caring for poor widows, orphans, homeless, motherless and many other ailing or destitute groups of people.

Example: Martin Luther King Junior, who haven suffered segregation in America as a black American was inspired and motivated to fight for the freedom of black Americans in USA and this brought him to limelight. The question here you will want to answer is:

What problem(s) have you suffered that you are ready to develop yourself and free yourself and others from?

What have you overcome in life that you want to help others overcome? Is it habits such as smoking, excessive drinking of alcohol, taking cocaine, stealing, marijuana, heroin, and abuse of other dangerous drugs, etc.?

Doing any of these can become a life’s purpose, assignment or calling for you.

How to Discover your life's Purpose Part 5.

Methods/Strategies for finding out your life's purpose.

In Part 4 we looked at the foundational requirements for discovering purpose. From this 5th Part of this series we shall be going through about 10 methods for discovering purpose until we exhaust them. Thereafter we would look at other important things.

Let's look at the 1st method.

1. Examine Yourself to Find Out Your Natural Abilities.

This has to do with identifying what you are good at. These include your gifts, talents, potentials etc. They all refer to those things you can do effortlessly that the majority of people around you find difficult to do; most people around you also tell you that they notice you are good in this area. No one else in the world has exactly the same gifts, talents, background, or future as you." When you identify what you are good at –the thing that sets you apart from others, and you tap into it, you begin to understand your life’s purpose. Dr. Myles Munroe said “The original purpose for a product determines its design, composition, capacity, and potential. Purpose may be defined as “original intent” or “reason for creation.” This means God designed you with purpose in mind, He placed inside you all what you need to help you fulfil a particular purpose. Those things God placed inside you for helping you fulfil purpose are called natural abilities

Your natural abilities are all pointers to what God wants you to do with your life. Your gifts and abilities were given to you (or more correctly put inside you) by God to enable you fulfill your life’s purpose effortlessly. What you do with your gift for the benefit of humanity is your life’s purpose.

Take a look at the following examples below:

  • If you have a good voice, that could be a pointer to the fact that God wants you to be in music.
  • If you are good at mathematics, it could be a pointer to engineering, physics, computer science, accounting etc. those fields that require proficiency in logic and carrying out complex calculations accurately. In the case where you have so many other options or fields to choose from, it would be necessary to check inwards; on the area you are most passionate about.
  • If you find that you are naturally very curious or inquisitive, that could be a clue that you will very good at research work focused on answering important questions about life. You can also become a great inventor. Asides these you can also become a good journalist or writer.
  • If you find out that you are good at communicating free with people whether those in your neighbourhood or even strangers then that’s a clue that you can be a great public relations officer, customer care agent, sales representative, marketing manager etc. in other words you can be very good at those fields and work positions that require good interpersonal communications skills or talent(s).
