How to Discover Your Life's Purpose Part 7

5th Method for finding out you life's purpose:

Your Funeral Service, What You Wish To Be Remembered For And Core Values To Uphold.

This method is about deciding how your life story would read at the end of your life’s journey. It’s about creating and shaping your future- the future you desire in being. It’s about making use of the gifts of your mind (will), time and your life today for writing or rewriting your life’s story by intentional living. It’s said that the best way to predict your future is to create it. Life offers us two kinds of pain to choose from; the pain of regret from a future that you allowed fate or your environment to force on you or the pain of forcefully creating or birthing the future you desire. We identified earlier that among the gifts every human being received at birth were the gift of life, time and mind. It’s what we use our life which is under the full control of the mind to do over time that dictates how we end up. A life that would end up a success is the bye product of the handiwork of a great mind, a great mind is the bye product of a great education, and a great education is one which is enshrined in acquiring self-knowledge. – Knowledge about the inner self and inner hidden seed of greatness called talent, potential or simply natural abilities. The development of the hidden seed of greatness and self-expression in use of those developed natural abilities in solving human problems. Socrates’ injunction was and still holds true today he said “man know thyself”. So as can be seen a great life is a product of great work, efforts and sacrifice. First its discovery from personal research and development to crafting a life plan to actions in bringing your plans to reality.

How to carry out this method

I was first introduced to this great method by Late Dr Myles Munroe. He said you should spend time alone, thinking and reflecting on your life and decide what legacy you would want to be remembered for. And said assuming today you went to attend a burial or funeral service and on getting there you went to see the face of the deceased. On reaching the side of the coffin and looking into it, lo and behold you were the one inside. It was your burial service, you discovered that in fact it was your spirit that had been moving around all the while. You start to think that no wonder you had been talking to all the people that were gathered for the burial but no one was seeing you or responding to you. Before having this realization you had even tried screaming and hitting those people you spoke to in order to draw their attention but all to no avail. You (or more correctly your spirit) was hovering around and among the attendees of your burial and you were hearing those people talking about you –about the kind of person you were doing your time on earth. Some people were probably saying some things that you felt were not correct because you have an excuse to give on why you did this or that, why this happened and that happened; but it was too late because no one was hearing you. You realise that you don’t have the opportunity you had when you were still alive to write or rewrite your story. ‘It’s too late when the head is cutoff’ they say. That opportunity is lost forever.

Dr. Myles Munroe said what would the majority of the people be saying about you? Would they be saying positive things or negative things? For some persons, people will say things like: “he or she was a very wicked person”, “he or she was a person without compassion or pity for other less privileged persons”, he or she was a thief, fraudster or a very corrupt personality; but for a few others it will be said of them that “they were very caring, compassionate, homely, hospitable, creative, hardworking, sincere, loyal, impactful persons among many other good qualities, virtues or values that would be ascribed to them.

He said holding this analogy in your mind you should ask yourself two questions:

1. What would people say about you if today and this very moment was your funeral service based on your sincere assessment of your current lifestyle and mode of living?

2. Assuming based on your own unbiased assessment the answer to the first question above is in the negative or not too impressive, what would you love to be what the majority of people would say about you at your funeral or burial service?

Think very deeply these are purpose or destiny revealing and life transforming questions!

Whatever you come up with becomes your life's purpose or assignment -what you live for and the legacy you would create and be remembered for.
