How to Discover Your Life's Purpose Part 9

In the part 8 of this series we looked at the 6th and 7th method for finding out personal purpose. In this 9th part we will be looking at the 8th and 9th methods. There are as follows;

8th method: Take a look at the Problems Around You

Success in life is tied to offering value and solving problems for people. The use of natural gift and talent is at the center of problem solving. The use of developed skills, gift and talent makes purpose fulfilment effortless. I believe problem solvers are men of purpose. Problem-solving will shoot you to relevance and make you a man of purpose

My Personal Story, as it relates to the method of discovering purpose by identifying the problem(s) around you.

Haven learnt from such great minds as Late Napoleon Hill, Late Dr. Myles Munroe, Dr. David Oyedepo, Dr. Mike Murdock, Bob Gass, John C. Maxwell, Bob Proctor etc. that the secret of success whether financially or socially was anchored on the discovery of purpose and our natural abilities, developing and engaging our gifts or talent in solving problems for people. But I found out that one major problem in our society today was that most people are not living purposeful lives, they are not developing and using their talent for solving human problems mostly because they are not taught that discovering purpose, fulfillment of purpose through the use our developed gifts is the bedrock of success in life. I knew from my research from the works of the great minds I learnt from that the lack of this knowledge is the root cause of poverty, unemployment, underachievement and underdevelopment we see today in most parts of Africa.

This problem really pained me and I felt it needs to be solved. And I decided I would make it my life’s work to solve it. After studying and identifying that my primary gift is talking, I felt why don’t I use my gift in serving others. I decided I would change peoples' lives through my speaking and writing. I wanted to share everything I had learned with everyone else. So I started talking about it. I started sharing what I learnt with my school mates and also junior students during our free periods in class whether before a lecturer comes in or after class. I was literally begging for people’s attention for them to hear me out. I talked in the school fellowship I was attending too ( Nifes fellowship) at our bible study review and whenever we were divided into classes for bible studies especially when I would be taking a class; I would relate the principles of success I had learnt to whatever topic I was to taking. I also constantly discussed it with close friends in my neighbourhood in the house I was staying outside my school campus at Federal University of Technology Minna too. Little did I know that I was sharpening my public speaking skills and perfecting myself in killing the fear of rejection and mastering the virtue of persistence at the same making an impact in the lives of the few students I could reach.

And, yes, friends and family (especially my mum) were shocked each time I told them I didn't want to pursue a job or profession. To them I was foolish and lazy so I didn’t want to work. They felt wanted to waste my time on such useless and profitless endeavours. They were all used to the normal pattern of finishing school and then looking for employment or pursuing a profession. But my mind was made up, I wanted to live my purpose. That's what was burning in my heart to do. I strongly believe that each and every one of us was brought here on earth to fulfill a specific purpose. I knew my success in life is tied to my personal purpose and not to any job or profession.

9th method: Volunteerism

Finding purpose is aided by having a broad set of meaningful experiences that can point you in the right direction. Volunteering expands your experience, while also improving your well-being and helping the world. Not only that, volunteering puts you in touch with people who have similar values, who may inspire you or point you toward other opportunities for making a difference that you hadn’t thought of before.

Volunteering also brings you closer to people. As you interact with people you gain more knowledge about others and yourself. As you get closer to others you also gain knowledge about problems of people in the group and this information enables you to creatively find solutions to their problems. This becomes your life’s purpose.
