How to Discover your life's Purpose Part 2.

In the 1st part of this series we saw that our life's Purpose and Gifts are God's tools that enables us to become great people and a wonder to our world.

In this 2nd part we will look at the relationship between purpose, Gift and Vision

Relationship between purpose and gift

Our gifts enable us to fulfil our life’s purpose. The area of life where you use your gift represents your area of assignment and purpose for living. What you do with your gift is your purpose. So your Gifts Are Pointers to your life’s Purpose. When you know your gifts then it’s easy knowing your purpose for living.

 Differences between Purpose and Gift

Your purpose is not your gift and your gift is not your purpose. The mission of the professions that uses your gifts and that you are passionate about is your purpose, assignment or calling. *For instance* if your gift is singing, you can’t say your purpose is singing, what you do with the singing gift; that’s your purpose. For instance a statement of your purpose could be I exist to sing quality songs that would inspire love among humans.

 Purpose and Vision

Purpose is the reason why a person exits, it’s why he or she was brought into the world.

It’s what a person was: born to do, created to do, or brought into the world by the creator to do. It is also what you want achieve or accomplish. Here the definition of purpose was repeated to easily show contrast between the two terms. Whereas:

Vision is a mental picture of a person’s purpose or future. It’s the process of seeing into the future of your purpose with your mind’s eye –that is the imagination. It’s mentally seeing yourself actually fulfilling your life’s purpose. It’s mentally drawing images of how your future would look like. It’s about taking your purpose from paper to the realm of imagination and adding mental pictures to it in your mind. It’s about using your mind to shape, plan and order your purpose into being –into tangible and seeable product, profession or assignment. It’s about adding (concrete or pictorial) flesh to your purpose or mission that was either stated in words or written on paper.

See The Difference explained by Dr. Myles Munroe (an authority on the subject) below:

Purpose is when you know and understand what you were born to accomplish.

Vision is when you see it in your mind and begin to imagine it.

In the next part (part 3) of this series we shall look at: 23 Advantages of discovering and fulfilling purpose
